Ralph Lauren Inspired Nursery

This nursery design project holds a soft spot in my heart as it was for our very own baby boy.  I’ve known for a few years that if we ended up having a boy, I was going to create something along the lines of a ‘Ralph Lauren inspired nursery’. After becoming pregnant and travelling to America in December, I was so inspired by the Ralph Lauren stores in New York and Chicago that the theme was set! It was then off to sourcing wallpaper, finding paint colours, organising wall panelling and choosing the perfect furniture! I’m so happy with how it turned out and it is such a calm and cosy space to be in.

It wouldn’t be a Ralph Lauren look without some dark timber furniture, so when I spotted this matching dresser and cot from Sacred Bundle, I knew it was the one! The timber is the perfect shade of brown, without any redness or ‘2000’s Mahogony’ vibes. The nursing chair from Il Tutto is the most comfortable thing I have ever sat on and looks so cosy tucked in the corner of the nursery with a fluffy teddy bear blanket.

I think nursery styling should be playful, whimsical and evoke a sense of fun within the space. It should create a cosy feel that you enjoy spending the many hours with your baby rocking them to sleep, changing them and feeding them. Think about layers when it comes to blankets draped over chairs and floating shelves with an accumulation of artworks, shoes, toys and meaningful items. Lastly, don’t forget about a beautiful rug to help ground the space and add softness to the room.

Nurseries will inevitably evolve and grow over time as your baby develops their own personality and grows into a little human with interests and preferences. To start with you can create personalisation that relates to mum and dad and the dreams you have for your little one. For example, my husband loves sports, so we added nods to this in a framed artwork of a teddy bear playing golf, a sports book on the floating shelf and other subtle touches throughout the space. Another cute touch we added to the nursery was framing one of his ultrasound images which makes me smile every time I glance at it.
