Amongst the leafy trees in the beautiful inner-city suburb of Hendra in Brisbane sits a beautiful Hamptons style home. I was contacted earlier this year by the lovely family to assist in making their home feel more finished, styled and to inject some personality within the spaces. The family of five lead a busy life so it was important the spaces were functional and durable yet still felt beautiful, contemporary and reflected the people that lived there.

The home has an open kitchen, living and dining room and we wanted each space to feel like its own ‘zone’ whilst still working together as one. To do this we shuffled around the layout slightly, added rugs and specific furniture pieces that would help zone each space accordingly.

The home had great existing finishes of hardwood timber floors, VJ panelled walls and a classic Hamptons style kitchen. We injected personality through taking inspiration from the colour palette of the artworks in the styling, whilst keeping the large furniture items neutral. Tan leathers help to warm up the space whilst patterns of stripes and natural veiny marbles and intrigue and contrast.

Sheer curtains were also added to the living room to add some softness to the space whilst also providing privacy. By mounting the curtains as high as possible and stretching from wall to wall, this creates a luxurious effect and draws the eye up towards the high ceilings.

To uplevel the home and make it feel more custom and bespoke we added built-in cabinetry to a few of the rooms. We added a beautiful, curved oak timber entertainment unit with matching floating shelves to the upstairs media room that greets you at the top of the stairwell. The finishing touch of the VJ panelled wall helps to tie the downstairs with the upstairs as well.

Lastly, we replaced existing, impractical sliding wardrobes in the bedrooms with beautiful bespoke cabinetry. The wardrobes now have plenty of storage with built-in drawers inside and extra cupboards above. Each room has its own desk nook where the children can do homework and have privacy within their own space.
